Imaging

At James Island Veterinary Hospital, we’re here to help you make the best decisions for your best friend. Whether detecting problems early through preventative care or diagnosing existing symptoms, our state-of-the-art imaging gives you the complete picture. We see beneath the surface (literally!) to get accurate answers and guide your pet’s treatment.

Our advanced imaging services include both ultrasound and digital X-ray technology, allowing us to thoroughly evaluate your pet’s health from every angle. These non-invasive diagnostic tools help us identify issues quickly and accurately, meaning faster treatment and better outcomes for your pet.

Ultrasound Services

Ultrasounds are performed by our board-certified internal medicine specialist, Dr. Frankie Easley, DACVIM (SAIM). This pain-free, non-invasive technology uses sound waves to create real-time images of your pet’s internal organs, making it invaluable for examining soft tissues that don’t show up well on X-rays.

We commonly recommend ultrasounds for unexplained vomiting or weight loss, abnormal blood work results, abdominal pain, suspected pregnancy, or to monitor chronic conditions affecting the liver, kidneys, or heart. The procedure requires no sedation for most pets—just a gentle belly shave and some patience while Dr. Easley works her magic. A complete abdominal ultrasound is just $375 (additional fees may apply if other services are required). X-Ray Services

Digital X-rays let us see inside your pet quickly and clearly, spotting injuries, illness, or dental issues with remarkable accuracy and minimal stress. Our modern digital equipment produces instant, high-quality images that can be enhanced, magnified, and shared electronically in an instant.

X-rays are essential for:

  • Evaluating bones and joints for fractures or arthritis
  • Checking for swallowed foreign objects
  • Examining heart and lung health
  • Identifying bladder stones
  • Assessing dental disease below the gum line
  • Emergency situations when we need answers fast

Most X-rays can be performed with your pet awake, though we may recommend mild sedation for anxious pets or when precise positioning is critical for diagnosis. Plus, our digital tech means lower radiation exposure for your pet, as well as immediate results for you. Images are stored permanently in your pet’s medical record and can be easily shared with specialists when needed.
Our team is always here to help you understand your options and make informed decisions. Call 843-795-5295 to discuss your pet’s needs or schedule an appointment!
